In my Krav Maga class tonight, I ended up sparring with a kid who was 17--tops. I realized something. I can totally kick a teenager's ass. Seriously. With adults--guys roughly my size at least--I don't hold back because they can take it. But this kid...I would have done some damage. He was pretty scrawny. This is power. No teenagers better try to mug me or anything. Posted via LiveJournal.app.

Holy shit it's time for punk fish and flying tanks!
I'm sure I'll finish these and other drawings sometime. Really stoked to put some color into this flying tank... it's just too much fun to draw.

| Quick comics time |
[05 Nov 2009|08:26pm] |
What a week! Strep throat, broken website, a commission that took like eighty days (in one week!) to complete, jeepers.
Well it can only mean one thing.
It's quick comics time again, and done by request as is custom (it's about the only time I formally take requests anymore and only on livejournal, you are my special little guys!), so ante up all yous
edit!
Whoa I should mention, I think some people have the idea that I will do all the requests! There are always way too many, that is impossible, I just do some. But I read them all, and some of them will be turned into bigger comics, you never know.

| Canadian History |
[01 Nov 2009|11:41am] |
Dear readers, let us combine our knowledge!
I am to do a big picture, for a newspaper, that features an assembly of characters from Canadian History. So as not to walk down the path of Terrible Bias, I'd like to have suggestions from you! Otherwise, I might end up just drawing Arthur Currie and Robert Borden sitting on a love seat.
So, a healthy dose of suggestions is in order, including (if you please) Arts, Science, Politics, Sports, Military, etc etc

Did you know that there is a livejournal app for the iPhone? I just found out. I wasn't planning to get an iPhone. My wife insisted. She imposed it on me. I had no choice. I didn't fight it all that hard, though... She needed a smartphone for work and decided that an iPhone was more her speed than a blackberry. And she knew I lusted after one myself so instead of dealing with my jealousy and envy she forced me to get one as well. She was right and it is indeed everything I hoped it would be. Life has changed for the better because of my iPhone. I don't know what I'd do without it, and I've only had it a couple weeks. I've been busy this month. I'm working on a few different web series. I'm convinced that this is the next development in pop culture entertainment, and very soon someone will figure out how to make lots of money off of them. I figure...why not one of the people I'm working for? Oddly, all of the webseries I'm doing have something to do with the age-old idea of outsiders trying to make it in Hollwood. Maybe next time I'll try to branch out but for now I'm happy to have the work. Links forthcoming, once they're available. Whatever the method, profit on webseries will derive from clicks. This is you people's responsibility. Comedy Central is airing an Eddie Murphy standup show from the 1980s, and since it's after 10pm they are allowed to be uncensored...but they still have to bleep half the stuff. That's how dirty he used to be. Pre-Norbit. I wrote a college recommendation last week. Some girl had volunteered in the doctor's office I manage. I never said more than three consecutive words to her, but I gave her a glowing recommendation nontheless. It was an odd, empowering feeling to know that in some small way I held her fate in my hands. Lucky my staff appreciated her help. And that her grandmother has been a patient and friend since long before I ever thought of the idea of moving to Los Angeles. But mostly because she was a help-I think I'm an honorable person who will do the right thing when the right thing needs to be done. It's Dina's birthday next week. Was I smart enough to buy her a gift already? I won't say. She reads this. Posted via LiveJournal.app.

| Ophidiophobia |
[31 Oct 2009|12:19am] |
Floods are common in the 'hollers'. Always have been. It's the nature of water to come and go. Life clings to rivers and oceans, so it's part of the deal.
In the post-war years, West Virginia was still all about one thing: COAL. During one unfortunate holiday to her aunt's house near Charleston, my Middle-Class mother lived through a flood. This youthful trauma was never forgotten, nor were the dead eels and snakes she saw afterwards. Her Ophidiophobia was evident even when we were very young. My elder brother has never been the type to hold back when given an advantage.
I clearly remember finding a blacksnake. A slightly bad copy of an old memory, perhaps, but a real event seen through the eyes of a toddler. It was cute, and so black that it stole the light from my baby palm. I called out, and my brother soon had it in his awful power. Time has eased some details, but we certainly PLANNED a surprise for our poor mother.
I don't know who ended up taking the hapless reptile next door to our neighbour Chester's house, but I remember the five even sections he cut it into with a hoe.
To this day, my very liberal-minded, intelligent mother cannot bear a snake in a film or TV show.
